About the Warkworth Fair Tractor Pull

35th-Tractor-Pull
In the summer of 1975 a group of farmers got together for a kitchen meeting to organize a tractor pull for the Warkworth fall fair. The first committee was lead by Alec Glover, Charlie Honey and Kevin Lowe. Today it is lead by David Glover, who was also a part of the initial launch. On fair day in Sept of 1975 15-20 farm tractors showed up to strut their stuff. The first 2 years, a horse pull boat was loaded down with cement blocks to test the tractors. In 1977 some of the young lads on the newly formed tractor pull committee attended a tractor pull in Blackstock to catch a glimpse at pulling technique. To their delight a new machine became available for putting any pulling Tractor or Truck to the test. This machine is pulled 300' gradually putting more load on the tractor as it progresses down the track.

Eventually the tractor pull became the biggest event at the Warkworth fair. The fair board decided to increase the fair to two days with the tractor pull being the main event on Sunday. The Warkworth Fair tractor pull has built a reputation for putting on the best pull in a 50-mile radius. In 2003 the pull became too big. That year 105 pullers hooked up to compete. The event ran on for seven hours. At this time the committee was forced to change again. Some classes were taken out so the committee could run a shorter but higher quality event. Hopefully you've noticed this year another special tractor event taking place at the fair. The Tractor pull committee is excited to see the swings, bows, allemande and dazzling paint of Team Farmalls tractor square dancing.
